Together in Ministry
Asbury First is a place for you. In addition to the vibrant worship which grounds our community, there are literally hundreds of ways to get involved within the life of Asbury First. Whether you want to share your gift of music, deepen your faith, serve those in need, or help keep make sure that those other things can happen through the administration of the church, we would love to help you find meaningful ways to get involved.
We encourage you to browse this website and explore some of the myriad opportunities we have for children, youth, and adults. In addition, you can fill out a Volunteer Interest Form, and we'll help you pick out the volunteer opportunity that is best for you.
In general, opportunities for involvement at Asbury First fall into the following five categories:
Serve as an usher, communion steward, or prepare the altars as a member of the Altar Guild. Musical groups are available for adults, youth, and children of all abilities. If you wish to help the faith journeys of many — including yourself — then a volunteer role in the worship area may be right for you.
Do you love to learn? Are you ready to take the next step on your faith journey? Whether you are under eight or over eighty, we offer many opportunities to help you deepen your faith. In addition to our regular Sunday school classes for children through adults, we offer many weekly opportunities for diving deeper. From short-term classes that explore the foundations of Methodism or human sexuality to year-long explorations of the Bible, we would encourage you to find an opportunity to expand your faith. Are you a teacher at heart? Maybe you’d like to teach one of our current classes or create a new educational opportunity that will help enrich the entire community.
Volunteers visit the sick, support those in crisis, celebrate joys, and welcome newcomers. From the members of the prayer shawl ministry team who craft handmade shawls for the sick to the handy men and women who use their carpentry skills to help make our campus safe and pleasant, there’s a place for you to use your gifts to help strengthen the entire community.
Do you want to help others in tangible and concrete ways? Each week Asbury First members and friends prepare meals at our Dining and Caring Center, sort clothes for our Storehouse, bring health through our UR Well Clinic, teach children through our work with school 41, and much much more. Regardless of what you choose, you will find a place in our outreach programs to extend a hand to our neighbors, and gain satisfaction from knowing you made someone's life a little better.
What fuels the work of our community? Our vibrant and empowered lay committees ensure that Asbury First thrives. From finance to technology, stewardship to maintenance, you'll find a committee where you can use your talents for the greater good. Membership in most committees rotates from year to year. If you wish to gain experience in leadership while serving the church community, consider joining a committee.
