An inclusive, Christ-centered community making a difference.

Each year we gather on the Sunday before Thanksgiving to give thanks for all that God has given us, and to pass on our gratitude in the form of items to support our outreach ministries – something we call our "Thanksgiving In-Gathering." On this day, we also consecrate our pledges for 2016 to God, and give thanks for the generosity of our members in keeping the church's ministries vital and active in the coming year.

You are invited to review the list of needed items below, and join with others in bringing a gift of any of these items to services on November 22. That day, at the offertory, we will bring forward our gifts and present them at the altar. This year, our ministries are in need of the following:

For the Dining and Caring Center:

  • adult hats, gloves and scarves
  • coffee
  • sugar
  • grits
  • toilet paper.

For the Storehouse:

  • children's gloves and mittens

For the Grocery Bag Ministry:

  • canned fruit and vegetables
  • canned soup
  • peanut butter
  • jams and jellies
  • canned tuna
  • pasta and pasta sauce

The youth of Asbury First, under the direction of Larry Dugan, are presenting the musical Children of Eden on November 13, 14, and 15.

Asbury First is holding several "town hall" style meetings to talk about the future of our faith family. God is at work in our wonderful community – how shall we respond?

The Granger Street lawn at Asbury First will be converted to a sea of orange from October 10 through 31 as the youth sponsor their second annual Pumpkin Patch. On Saturday, October 24, they will host a Family Fall Festival and Hoedown.

Sharon Garlough Brown, author of Sensible Shoes: A Story About the Spiritual Journey and the forthcoming Two Steps Forward: A Story of Persevering in Hope, will be presenting a workshop at Asbury First on Saturday, September 19.

Can you help us to "Cook for a Cause"? The ninth annual fundraiser for Asbury First's Dining and Caring Center, Dinner Among Friends, is Saturday, October 3 and we want YOU to consider serving as one of our gracious hosts.

We invite the Asbury First community to join with our brothers and sisters at Baber A.M.E. this evening for a vigil remembering all those whose lives were lost today in the shooting at Emmanuel A.M.E. church in Charleston.

As the Rev. Susan S. Shafer prepares for her upcoming retirement this summer, the Asbury First family plans to honor her with a celebratory dinner, and a chance for all to participate in honoring her.

Children's Performance on Mother's Day: The Tale of the Three Trees

On May 10, thirty-five Asbury First children in kindergarten through fifth grade will perform the cantata The Tale of the Three Trees during the 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship services.

Holy Superhero: The Spirituality of Superheroes
April 23, 30, May 7, 14
6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Gathering Center

Whether you are able to leap tall buildings in a single bound or can just barely manage to fight off the common cold, we invite you to a discussion of the spirituality of the comic heroes we all know and love. Whether you love Marvel or DC, whether you prefer flight or invisibility, whether you are young or old, we welcome you to our discussion of how the themes of these stories of good and evil might inform, or be informed by, our faith. We will meet for four sessions from 6:30-8:00 p.m. beginning on April 23 in the Gathering Center. All ages are welcome, but children under ten should be accompanied by a parent. Childcare is available by request. The first two nights will feature a younger child-friendly activity during the first half hour.
