All are invited to come and hear the Rev. Dr. Mark Holland, Executive Director of Mainstream UMC share his presentation, "Moving Forward at General Conference 2020" on Saturday, March 28 at 10 am at Asbury First UMC.
Mainstream UMC is one of the supporting groups for the newly recommended "Protocol of Reconciliation & Grace Through Separation," which is the work of mediation between diverse advocacy groups representing contrasting views. The Protocol has been supported by many major traditionalist, centrist, and progressive caucus as well as the Council of Bishops.
Dr. Holland is coming to the Northeast to raise awareness and funds to advocate for an expression of Methodism that honors LGBTQ+ persons in marriage and ministry. Beginning at 10 am, Dr. Holland will speak on the current state of the UMC, the plans going before the 2020 General Conference in May, the new "Protocol," and the work of Mainstream UMC. Following his presentation, he will leave plenty of time for questions.
Mainstream UMC is an alliance of centrist and progressive United Methodists who celebrate our mission together as a global denomination. It was founded in 2018 to help pass the “One Church Plan” at the 2019 Special Session of the General Conference. Since that plan failed and the punitive Traditional Plan passed, Mainstream UMC has become a leading voice of protest and advocacy within the denomination.
Please bring your friends and your questions as Mark shares about the Protocol and the very real hope we have for a truly inclusive United Methodist Church.
