A Christian Service of Asbury First United Methodist Church ![]() PurposeAsbury First Storehouse distributes donated clothing, kitchenware, and bedding free to people who are referred from social agencies, health care facilities, and churches. Our mission is to use resources to the maximum extent and to touch human lives with Christ's love and caring. ClientsFamilies and individuals--more than 6,000 persons a year--are sent to us by 120+ agencies, churches, schools, health care facilities, and halfway houses. Clients come to us by appointment, with a letter of referral from a worker who has personal knowledge of needs. We apportion clothing, which they may choose forthemselves, and facilitate fair distribution of all donations. VolunteersMore than 100 volunteers from Asbury First and other area churches staff the Storehouse. There are sorters, seamstresses, size markers, clerks and receptionists, in addition to those who gather materials for us from motels, consignment shops, and garage sales. We are open five days every week. We always need additional help and appreciate all assistance.
DonationsWe are dependent upon churches and community support. Occasionally church groups knit mittens, make receiving blankets, quilts, and afghans.Contribution of funds also helps to replenish our supply. We also stock children's books, games, and toys. Articles should be clean and in good condition. A receipt for tax purposes is available; include aself-addressed, stamped envelope with a list of donated items to have a receipt returned to you.
